Mommy’s Verbs
by Kamyra Harding

My mantra is, "Most things in moderation". I exercise but am neither buff nor overweight. I partake of an occasional alcoholic beverage but am neither a teetotaler nor a drinker. I’m a modern woman with old school values; a little bit of every woman yet not wholly any. Being stuck in between and intentionally moderate is how I navigate the earth.

In this column I will write about current events from a moderate mother’s perspective. There’s much in the news that concerns parents. What messages are our kids receiving? How do we help them consider all of the points? There’s even more we have to decipher for our children.

However, today I am remembering that before I was a mommy first and woman second, I was all woman. This ruminating reminds me of passage on page 79 in I’m Every Woman by Lonnae O’Neal Parker. Parker is discussing playing a word game with her daughter. It’s simple: one lists self-descriptive verbs. Humm…what are my verbs? What were my verbs?
