Boys and Nutrition
by Paula Schmitt

Back in the day when my four boys were younger, and smaller, I would hear from other parents, who knew from experience, how I was going to be flat broke once my sons were growing teenage boys.

I waited and waited as time went on for my cupboards to be empty and my pockets to be bone dry.

I believe that day has come.

This article is about feeding a teenage boy. Just yesterday (honestly) my son Tony ate:

Breakfast at home
  • Two eight-ounce glasses of milk
  • Three fried eggs
  • Half a plate of home fries
  • Seven pieces of bacon
  • One bagel
  • Two pieces of toast
Mid-morning snack
  • Three Krispy Krème donuts
  • Two eight-ounce glasses of milk
Lunch
  • One 12-inch hot meatball and cheese grinder, with extra cheese
  • One full plate piled high of nacho chips with melted cheese on top
  • Two chocolate chip cookies
  • Two 12-ounce glasses of Sprite
Mid-afternoon snack
  • One giant-size bag of Doritos
  • One bowl of salsa
  • One 12-ounce glass of Root Beer
Dinner
  • Two giant chicken drum sticks
  • A plateful of French fries
  • Green beans
  • One dinner roll
  • Two eight-ounce glasses of iced tea
Dessert
  • One huge bowl of Reese’s Peanut Butter ice cream with M & M’s sprinkled on top
  • One eight-ounce glass of milk
Late-night snack
  • One large Tony’s pepperoni pizza
  • One quart iced tea
Amazing! I took the time today to quickly add this up to see how much money goes down my son’s stomach per day and the amount came to roughly $30.

Multiply that by 365 days and you get approximately $11,000 a year.

Need I say more?
